Hello all, my name is Steve Jagodzinski; I am an accounting major from New York. Thanks for checking out my new blog!
Besides being an accounting major, I am actively involved in the Phi Eta Sigma Honors fraternity and Zeta Beta Tau social fraternity. Upon graduating from the university I plan on working in public accounting which involves accounting for businesses; and I would eventually like to work toward starting my own accounting firm.
Being a business major at Gannon has offered me plenty of academic and social opportunities. When I am not studying or reading textbooks I like to spend my time doing fun things around campus. I spend a lot of my time during the week at the Carneval Athletic Pavilion recreation center working out. I spend a lot of time in the weight room and playing intramurals; I also spend a lot of time with friends watching movies and roaming around the city.
Being at school is not all about play; there is a reason we are here – and that is to get an education. Gannon is a lot of fun, but there is a lot of work, too. Last week was midterm week, so I had my share of papers and tests. The professors here explain their expectations nicely so you can prepare well – it isn’t as bad as it sounds. I made it through the week, and now I’m on spring break!
The professors are really nice and try to give students the best advice they can instead of simply teaching us facts and figures. Most of the professors actually have a career in the area they teach. I’ve had professors who work for computer companies, accounting firms and a host of other businesses. They teach what they feel you should know in order to succeed in the field of study and push you in order to drive home a point without just making you do busywork.
I have learned a lot since I stepped on to campus my first day. Sophomore accounting majors have all the skills to hold a part time job in an accounting department. Being in the Dahlkemper School of Business has put me into a position where I am able to be confident that I will have a job after I graduate.
All in all, I love it here and I wouldn’t have gone anywhere else. Gannon is a great school that offers great academics and great student programming – not to mention its great location in downtown Erie.
