International Education Week 2016

This week marks International Education Week, 2016. It will be celebrated on campus with a variety of events – share your week and your photos by tagging us, Gannon University or using #IEW2016 to see how students are observing the week all over the world.

MONDAY, 11/14

Coffee & Culture: Hosted by the African American Student Organization
2-3pm, Beyer Hall – 2nd Floor Lobby
Join students from various regions of Africa for casual conversation and refreshments.

iDebate Rwanda
7pm, Yehl Ballroom, Culture and Climate Change Fall 2016 Series Presented by the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences
The 1994 Rwandan Genocide was driven by climate change. Survivors and descendants will depict their nation’s complicated history and journey toward reconciliation.

TUESDAY, 11/15

Faulty/Staff Workshop: Integrating Globalization in the Classroom
9-10am, CETL, presented by Dr. Anjali Sahay, Ph.D.

Global Learning: Student Clubs/Activity Tables
11am-1pm, Palumbo – 1st Floor
Students can learn about campus clubs, meet global students and discover opportunities for education abroad.

Oxfam Hunger Banquet
5-6:30, Yehl Ballroom, Sponsored by the Center for Social Concerns and OPEN
All are invited to attend this interactive event that explores the issues of poverty and hunger throughout the world.

WEDNESDAY, 11/16

Interfaith Prayer and Meditation Space Dedication
2pm, Beyer Hall 4th Floor

Panel Discussion: Foreign Language and Culture in the Labor Force
3-4:30pm, Waldron 219
Representatives from GE, Logistics Plus and UPMC Hamot will join current students to discuss the importance of foreign language and cultural awareness in the working world.

THURSDAY, 11/17

Coffee & Culture: Hosted by the TRAVEL Program
3-5pm, Beyer Hall – 2nd Floor Lobby
Join student participants from various TRAVEL experiences for casual conversation and refreshments.

FRIDAY, 11/18

Coffee & Culture: Hosted by the Jordanian students
2-3pm, Beyer Hall – 2nd Floor Lobby
Join students from Jordan for casual conversation and refreshments.

Celebration of Cultures: Food, Music & Dancing from Around the World
7-10pm, Club LaRiccia

SATURDAY, 11/19

International Film: “Cinema Paradiso”
7pm, Zurn 104, Sponsored by the College of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences

 

Also, don’t forget the IEW Annual Photo Contest: Our Changing Climate & Culture, will be exhibited in the Schuster Gallery from now through January 28. All are invited for refreshments and announcement of winners on Gallery Night, December 2, 7-9pm.
